Mounting system design and optimisation process development
The mounting strategy for a luxury vehicle manufactured was re-engineering to develop the latest techniques developed by a German parent OEM. This involved:
1) Topological optimisation of conceptual powertrain mounting position (engine mount, gearbox cross member propshaft position and final drive unit.
2) Multi-body dynamic modelling for approximate loading for each topology
3) Evaluation of single driving events for the assessment of maximum forces
4) Test sequence derivation including load measurements on existing or prototype vehicles on test tracks and public roads
5) Determination of aload intensity factor for optimised durable components.
This approach was used for structural assessment of engine and gearbox mounting components
