Vibration analysis of polymer components for damage prediction
Engine components are subjected to complex engine forcing and excitation. Further excitation may also be introduced from the road. Without measured input data, accurate durability analysis of passive components such as polymer mounting panels can be open to interpretation. A full study of random vibration methods was carried out to evaluate a standard methodology for a global automotive group. This included a stochastic approach to life prediction and provided a standard methodology for life prediction when measured data was limited.
